Celebrating the Journey: Our Trip to the National Parks

Celebrating the Journey: Our Trip to the National Parks

| June 30, 2019

What a busy and exciting time for our family over the last few weeks.

Elizabeth graduated from Samford University, Nathan finished up his junior year at Baylor, and we had a great Webb Financial Consultants educational event at the St. John’s restaurant providing insight into the volatility of the equity markets over recent months. To start off June, Nathan was on a school trip to Washington DC while Sherree, Elizabeth and I headed west to visit Zion, Bryce, and Grand Canyon National Parks.  While we were on this trip, Elizabeth finalized her postgraduate plans and just this past week, we moved her to Ft. Myers, Florida where she will be a Child Life Specialist in the Emergency Department at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. Whew!!

First off, if any of you have not been to these national parks, we would highly encourage you to consider visiting. For us, it was a great way to spend time as a family, see a part of the country we haven't seen before and experience some of the most beautiful geography! Our favorite park was definitely Zion. It had magnificent peaks towering over the beautiful valley and the Virgin River below. The only downside was that we could not hike through The Narrows at Zion because the water flow was six times its normal flow due to the late snow melt from the mountains upstream.

But the best part of the trip for me was spending time with Sherree and especially Elizabeth given that we were marking a significant season for our family. With Elizabeth graduating from college and moving to Ft. Myers for her first job, we celebrated the figurative ending of Elizabeth’s journey to become an adult and the exciting beginning of her journey to make a difference in this world on her own. Every parent hopes that they can lead their child(ren) in such a way that they can venture out into this world and be ready to live and thrive on their own. You hope that you have provided the proper love, nurturing, and teaching so each child will have the confidence, wisdom, and life tools to succeed where they are gifted. In essence, you hope that over the past 21+ years, you have created a lasting legacy with them so that they will have the foundation to provide them a great chance to succeed in life as they pursue their own family, professionally, civically and relationally.

As busy as each of us is in life’s pursuits, always remember to slow down enough to enjoy and celebrate the special moments and seasons of life with your family and friends.  What amazing memories that will create for a lifetime!
